Writing & Editing with AI
The Editing Canvas
The Editing Canvas is where content comes to life. Open any topic from your Content Queue and click Open in Canvas to launch the writing environment.
The Canvas is a full-featured editor with your content brief pinned to the right sidebar — including target keywords, ICP context, and outline structure. The toolbar gives you access to AI writing tools, formatting options, and the content scoring panel. It feels familiar if you've used Google Docs or Notion, but with AI capabilities woven into every interaction.
Here's what your screen looks like:
- Left — A clean writing area with your draft
- Right sidebar — Your content brief showing the primary keyword, target ICP, and AI-generated outline
- Top toolbar — AI tools (Generate Draft, Rewrite, Expand, Shorten) plus standard formatting options
- Bottom right — A content score that updates in real time as you write
Before Averi, here's what writing looked like: open a Google Doc, open a separate tab for your keyword research tool, another for your brand guidelines PDF, a fourth for your content calendar to check the brief, and switch between all four constantly while trying to write.
The average marketing team uses 12+ tools. The Editing Canvas consolidates the tools you actually need during writing — brief, keywords, AI, scoring — into one view. No tab switching. No lost context. Just writing.
💡Key Concept
The Editing Canvas keeps your brief, AI tools, and content scoring visible alongside your draft at all times. No context switching between tabs — everything lives in one workspace.

Generating and Refining AI Drafts
Click Generate Draft to have Averi produce a complete first draft based on your content brief and Brand Core settings. Drafts typically arrive in under 60 seconds.
The AI uses your voice profile, target ICP, assigned keywords, and outline to produce a draft that's already structured and on-brand. From there, the real work begins: human refinement.
- Sharpen language and cut filler sentences
- Add specific examples from your experience
- Inject the personality that makes your brand recognizable
- Highlight any section and click Rewrite for an alternative version
Here's the end-to-end workflow. You open the Canvas for "How to Run Effective Sprint Retrospectives," click Generate Draft, and 45 seconds later you have a 1,500-word article with an intro, five sections following your outline, keyword placement in the right spots, and a CTA tailored to your Engineering Manager ICP.
Is it perfect? No. Is it 80% there? Yes. That's the point. You're spending your time on the 20% that requires human judgment — your unique examples, your proprietary data, your hot takes — instead of staring at a blank page.
The Rewrite tool deserves special attention. Say the AI's opening paragraph is structurally fine but feels flat. Highlight it, click Rewrite, and the AI generates three alternative versions. Pick the one closest to what you want and tweak from there.
Before Averi, refining a draft meant either rewriting from scratch or sending it back to a freelancer with notes and waiting three days. Now you iterate in real time. Teams report completing pieces in 30-60 minutes that used to take 3-5 hours. Spend 2 hours approving, not 20 hours creating.
✅Tip
Don't try to perfect the draft in one pass. First pass: structure and accuracy. Second pass: voice and personality. Third pass: polish and keywords. Three focused passes beat one exhausting marathon edit.

AI Writing Tools in the Canvas
Beyond full draft generation, the Canvas includes several targeted AI micro-tools accessible from the toolbar:
- Expand — Turns a short bullet or sentence into a full paragraph
- Shorten — Condenses wordy passages
- Simplify — Reduces reading level for broader accessibility
- Add Evidence — Inserts relevant statistics or data points
- Suggest Heading — Generates SEO-friendly heading options for any section
These micro-tools let you fine-tune specific parts of your content without regenerating the whole piece. They're especially useful when you want AI assistance on a paragraph-by-paragraph level.
Here's a real scenario. You're editing a section about sprint retrospective formats. The AI draft gives you a thin paragraph: "There are several popular retrospective formats including Start/Stop/Continue and Mad/Sad/Glad." That's technically correct but useless. Highlight it and click Expand. The AI turns that into a full paragraph explaining each format with enough detail to be actionable.
Then you notice your intro is running long at 200 words. Highlight it, click Shorten, and it tightens to a punchy 80-word opener.
The Add Evidence tool is particularly powerful. Highlight a claim like "retrospectives improve team performance" and click Add Evidence. The AI inserts a relevant statistic with attribution — something like "Teams that run regular retrospectives are 24% more likely to deliver projects on time, according to the State of Agile report."
This saves you the 10-minute Google search for a supporting data point. Multiply that across every article and you're saving hours per week. One Averi user told us the micro-tools alone saved their team 6 hours per week — not by replacing the writing, but by eliminating the tedious parts of editing that slow everyone down.

Content Scoring and Quality Checks
Before you publish, click the Score tab in the right sidebar to see how your content measures up. Aim for a composite score above 85 before moving to the Review stage.
Averi scores every piece across four dimensions:
- SEO readiness — Keyword usage, heading structure, meta data
- Readability — Sentence length, vocabulary level, flow
- Brand voice alignment — How closely it matches your Brand Core voice profile
- Completeness — Whether the piece addresses all sections from the brief
Each dimension gets a score out of 100, and Averi provides specific recommendations to improve any area below 80.
Here's what scoring looks like in practice. You finish editing your sprint retrospective article and click Score. The panel shows:
- SEO Readiness: 92 — Primary keyword appears in the title, H2, and naturally throughout
- Readability: 78 — Two paragraphs have sentences averaging over 25 words
- Voice Alignment: 88 — Matches your Brand Core profile closely
- Completeness: 95 — All outline sections covered
Composite score: 88. The Readability panel highlights the two long-sentence paragraphs and suggests breaking them up. You make the fix in 30 seconds and rescore: Readability jumps to 86. Composite: 90. Done.
Why does this matter? Content scoring removes the guesswork from "is this good enough to publish?" Without it, one editor thinks it's ready, another wants more revisions, and the debate eats up an hour.
With scoring, you have an objective baseline. Above 85? Move to Review. Below 80 in any dimension? Fix the specific issues the panel identified. It turns quality from a feeling into a number, and keeps your team moving instead of debating.
⚠️Warning
A high content score is necessary but not sufficient. Scoring checks structure and optimization — but only a human editor can verify that the content is genuinely insightful, accurate, and worth publishing.
